We need your help to make BASE Camp come alive!

This is an exciting opportunity for students, aspiring doctors, PA’s, and nurses who would like to experience emergency medicine in action.
We need volunteers to help as production staff, actors, and techs.

Please see below for more details on how to volunteer!

BASE Camp depends on TWO kinds of volunteers

PRODUCTION STAFF

Production Staff are the backbone that makes BASE Camp work. Tasks throughout the weekend include registering attendees, making sure folks are in the right places at the right time, helping organize and setup equipment and supplies, setting up breakfast/lunch, and breaking down when we’re done!

ACTORS

Actors make our simulated clinical cases come alive! They play parents, uncles, aunts, and siblings. Not only do actors make our simulations more realistic and lifelike, they give fellows and nurses the opportunity to practice family-centered interactions, and they provide feedback during the debriefing sessions that follow each simulated clinical case.

What are we looking for in our volunteers?

Many volunteers may be interested in the field of healthcare, education, or acting – but many are simply curious to see what it’s like to be this CLOSE to the action!

When you sign up to volunteer, indicate the role(s) that you think would suit you best – e.g., if you’d like to volunteer as Production Staff one day and an Actor the next, let us know well in advance, and we’ll work things out.

What should I expect as a volunteer at BASE Camp?

Volunteers can sign up for shifts that are 5-6 hours long. We expect volunteers to sign in on time and to be ready to help once their shift starts. If you’d like to volunteer but can’t make a predefined shift, let us know, and we’ll find out how you can best be of help. Of course, if you’d like to volunteer the entire day, we’d be more than happy to have you!

Whatever your role is, please make sure to follow the instructions of the Conference Coordinators and Faculty throughout the weekend. BASE Camp can be an intense experience for anyone involved, so we ask you to remain flexible and help out in anyway possible.

VOLUNTEER MEETINGS

During the month of October, we will arrange several meetings so that we can get to know volunteers and talk about all things BASE Camp. We’ll discuss the schedule, walk through the hospital areas you’ll be volunteering in, go over the specifics of your particular role(s), and answer any questions you might have. We may even recruit your help with light manual labor, like putting together name tags and folders for the attendees.

The meeting will last 1-2 hours, depending on your role (for example, Actors may spend some time practicing their roles with Faculty). The dates and times for these meetings are listed in the registration form.
